RAUL "FRAME" GAMBOA
Born in Los Angeles back in 1966, this 41 year old Mexican American considers himself one of the last dinosaurs from the early days of the Los Angeles Graffiti scene.
Frame started writing graffiti in fall of 1983 and continues to paint to this day. Although not as active as he once was in the streets, he believes that to be seen as a graffiti writer he still needs to be out there in the trenches from time to time to keep things real for himself.
Frame started out with some of the most influential writers back in the early days such as Charlie from the Down To Kill crew (DTK), Dream of the Suck My D*ck crew (SMD), Crime aka Rick One from the Los Angeles Bomb Squad and founder of Kill To Succeed crew (K2S), Defer K2S,Prime K2S, Miner of the West Coast Artists (WCA), Risky WCA, Chase of the Under Cover Artists (UCA), and Geo One of Todays Writing Artists (TWA).
In 1988 Frame started painting with Charlie DTK and the both of them started a campaign of train, freeway, and yard painting through out the Los Angeles area and by 1990 they were producing about 500 pieces a year between the both of them.
Also in 1988 Frame along with help of several others started organizing the first on several Graffiti Art events of it kind in Los Angeles. The "Los Angeles Graffiti Art Expo" was a huge success and every year there after, eventually the event grew to over 3000 attendees by 1993. Writers and artists from all over the world made it a yearly event to attend.
Currently Frame now organizes a similar annual event now called the "West Coast Graffiti Party" and since the first one back in 2006, the event is growing and soon will become the largest event of its kind in the Los Angeles area. Plans for WCGP 2008 are in the works now.
Frame also is an instructor for an after school program called "Graffiti 101" within the Los Angeles Unified School District which he enjoys tremendously.
Today Frame is motivated by his younger peers who are now the trend setters... Retna, Revok, Rime, Saber along with several other who make up The Mad Society Kings crew are leading the charge today not only in streets of Los Angeles but literary around the world.
Frame says that he will continue to create art, and working on pushing himself to continue evolving his skills.
