Curated by Giant Robot co-founder and co-editor Eric Nakamura, this expanded follow-up to the 2007 exhibition Giant Robot Biennale: 50 Issues will highlight artists associated with the magazine over the past 15 years.

Providing an overview of the Giant Robot aesthetic, this multi-faceted exhibition will celebrate the depth and diversity of perspectives found within the Giant Robot experience through a series of components that visually represents the magazine’s ethos.

GR2 includes installations by David Choe, James Jean, and Souther Salazar, in addition to works by Theo Ellsworth, kozyndan, Stella Lai, Jack Long, Albert Reyes, Jeff Soto, Rob Sato, and Deth P. Sun.

Other components feature a group show of more than 50 other artists; a retrospective for longtime magazine contributor Ben Clark; a tribute to the kaiju scene featuring collaborative works made by indie sculptor and artist Yukinori Dehara, UglyDolls co-creator David Horvath, and Portland-based underground toy legend LeMerde; and four custom videogames developed by the Attract Mode Collective in conjunction with some of Giant Robot’s favorite artists.

Opening Reception will begin at 6pm and is FREE to the public.

Glorious Excess (Dies): Paintings by Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda
August 30 - October 4, 2009

Following his highly-successful 2008 show, Glorious Excess (Born), Mike Shinoda returns to the National Museum to unveil his latest collection of paintings and digital works. Larger, broader, and more sensational than before, Glorious Excess (Dies) is the next chapter in his series exploring society’s obsession with celebrity culture, consumer addiction, and fascination with excess.
Shinoda’s new works continue to evolve, blending his personal experiences in the spotlight with social commentary and fine art technique while expanding his signature visual vocabulary, juxtaposing symbols of death, money and sex against vibrant neo-pop imagery. Thursday: 12 PM to 8 PM (Check admission rates for Thursday free admission times)

Mike Shinoda will be opening his second solo exhibition at the Japanese American National Museum on August 29th, entitled "Glorious Excess (Dies)."  If the success of his first solo at that Museum is any indication we are all in for quite a treat.  Shinoda was gracious enough to take a few moments out of his busy schedule to talk about his upcoming show, his music career and the exciting things which lay ahead for this gifted artist.
